I've been meaning to stop into JUNQUE SHOP ANTIQUES on Michigan Ave in Detroit for ages.....either get side tracked or their not open. Well today was the day.....Joe offered a free cup o' Java and some great conversation.
Unique store...many smalls & regional artifacts...
The basement is the home to more architectural paraphernalia....
A place that I will frequent more often now that I know Joe's hours!
Unbelievable sad story I too used to frequent the store. The owner and I had done years of business. He had two lovely daughters both at premium colleges...he also was proud of the weight he lost. He was a stickler to prices and was cheap as chips but I liked him. The unfortunate things about owning a business in the hood of DETROIT he was robbed beaten and killed over nothing a few bucks and some idiot didn't even know antiques...just a JUNKIE....so if anybody reads unless new owners carried on the Michigan Ave tradition...
ReplyDeleteThe guy who owns it now is a retired Detroit Firefighter. Comical guy...said he kept it open as a place he could hide from his wife all day! He gives out free coffee....to potential customers & street walkers alike. He told me not to be shocked when any came in for a free cup of "Joe"....sure enough a young lady walked in ...poured herself a cup....said "Hello" to him & went on her way. I'd check it out more often but I can never tell when its open!
